Duende’s school experience didn’t last long (a mere 6 months) but at 14 there isn’t much time to waste — either it’s a good match or it isn’t. This particular school was not a good match for her and in this area there are not a lot of options, so back to homeschooling we go.Continue reading “Duendesday: Life after Skool”

Duendesday — the teen shift
We think because she’s already such an empathetic and sweet gal, this ‘teen shift thing’ will not be as painful as it is for some. It’s not great, mind you — she’s still testing boundaries and throwing a little shade but it’s very performative and feels very shallow; we don’t expect it to stick around.Continue reading “Duendesday — the teen shift”
Super Special Birthday Celebration
Our amazing and hilarious child is now 14 years old! A glorious end to her second cycle and a smashing start to the third. This Duende is fiery, smart, and creative. She’s empathetic and compassionate. She has a great sense of self and she’s not afraid to show it. And she’s very excited to tryContinue reading “Super Special Birthday Celebration”
Duendesday: Movin’ on Up
{life with a curious and crazy almost 14 yr old} It’s officially official — she passed her 8th Grade Assessment and was recommended for Honors classes when she chooses her High School Classes…she’s officially also been accepted to the Maine Arts Academy!! Onward ho! She’s excited. And if she’s excited, we’re excited. Celebratory ice creamContinue reading “Duendesday: Movin’ on Up”
Duendesday: Change In Action
{life with a curious and crazy almost 14 yr old} She dances, she runs, she sews, she reads, she crafts, she whines, she makes messes, she leaves dirty dishes everywhere…she’s 13. It’s all good, even when it’s crazy-making. Our Duende is a lovely person; she’s freaking funny as heck, creative and smart, confident and assertive,Continue reading “Duendesday: Change In Action”
Duendesday: end of Spring fun
{life with a curious and crazy almost 14 yr old} Yes, the weather says it is Summer but if we named things by how the weather changes we would miss the planetary, solar, and lunar alignments and that is important, too. And we would be naming a lot more things (though, I do like randomlyContinue reading “Duendesday: end of Spring fun”
Duendesday: Re-visitations
{life with a curious and crazy almost 14 yr old} Spring has sprung in a most summery way this week — the yard is instantly lush and needs mowing weekly (much to D’s preference), weeds are eclipsing growing plants, and the garden is still late to get in (though it seems as if it wasContinue reading “Duendesday: Re-visitations”
Duendesday: Constant change
{life with a curious and crazy almost 14 yr old} She’s such a fancypants in so many ways, and then such a slobby kid in others (ha!). I like to call Duende my little Ronja because even when she’s dressed to the nines, she likes to have her knife tied around her waist when sheContinue reading “Duendesday: Constant change”
Duendesday: Beckoning Life
{life with a curious and crazy 13 yr old} Amidst her absorption of everything in her path (her mind is like a sponge), Duende has decided to try out High School. We are very lucky to have a public charter that caters to the arts (especially now, in this political climate) and the Open HouseContinue reading “Duendesday: Beckoning Life”
Duendesday: Island of Bloo
{life with a curious and crazy 13 yr old} It must be amazing to be a (slightly) middle class white kid in (relative) suburbia…J & I talk about the magick of ‘no’. As if we could have ever told our parents ‘no’ without serious traumatic repercussions. Or just willy-nilly fed ourselves, or took 3-hour baths,Continue reading “Duendesday: Island of Bloo”
